Manchester (R-U)

Manchester (R-U) picture

Aside from being famous for its sporting connections, Manchester is also globally recognised as an economic knowledge-led centre, with research and enterprise clustered around its world class universities - Manchester University being at the centre of the important work currently being conducted into Graphene. Dubbed (unofficially) “The Capital of the North” the city is home to a growing number of global businesses as well as some of the UKs largest companies.

Marks & Clerk's Manchester office celebrated its 120th year in 2013 and has grown considerably over the years. It is now one of the largest teams of patent and trade mark attorneys in the region, supported by an experienced and long standing staff base.

The expertise and knowledge of our patent and trade mark attorneys is focused around the city’s thriving industries, which include financial, legal and business services, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, environmental technologies, global sports brands and media.

In particular, the office has a unique team of computer science patent attorneys. A surge in high profile litigation over recent years has brought software patents into the limelight and supported the development of this specialist area of IP law. While most patent attorneys practising in the software area have some other background such as physics or electronics, all members of our team have backgrounds in computer science.

The experience and knowledge of our sizable trade mark team also sets us apart from other IP firms in the region. Working with clients ranging from local SMEs to world renowned brands across many sectors, our trade mark attorneys have a wealth of experience and genuine commercial understanding.
